Meet Hakim: From Educator to Thought Leader
Hakim didn’t come to me looking for a sales script.
He didn’t need motivation, and he certainly wasn’t lost.
He’s the founder of A for Oral, Singapore’s only dedicated PSLE Oral specialty program. He coaches students not just for exams, but for real-life communication—DSA interviews, public speaking, and beyond. He was doing something most coaches wouldn’t dare attempt—helping students pass one of the most stressful oral exams in the country. On top of that, he was teaching public speaking, interview prep, and running everything himself—from backend logistics to front-facing delivery.

But here’s what was happening under the surface:
People saw him as a “tuition teacher.”
They treated his time as flexible.
They asked for free trials, skipped sessions, and undervalued the transformation he was delivering.
When he joined 1Pitch™, he told me:
“I’m used to being the educator. I’m not used to being educated.”
🧠 I Thought I Was Coaching Another Educator.
Turns Out, I Was Watching a Giant Wake Up.
Every once in a while, someone shows up to 1Pitch™ who surprises even me.
Not because of their results—but because of their humility and willingness to grow.
Hakim is one of those people.

Like many of my students, Hakim wasn’t sure if 1Pitch™ would apply to his world.
“Salespeople, insurance agents, real estate closers… I see those folks at trainings, not educators,” he said.
But he gave it a shot.
He came in with healthy skepticism. But he stayed because he saw that I didn’t try to squeeze him into a cookie-cutter template.
Instead, we reshaped his presentation from the ground up:
We rebuilt his identity in the eyes of clients—not as a tutor, but as a strategic communicator and thought leader.
We improved his offer without changing his product.
Then something wild happened.
He offered a free class to a parent out of habit.
But she stopped him and said:
“No—you should be paid for your time.”
And then she paid him. Immediately. No invoice. No negotiation.
That one moment was the spark.

From there, momentum built fast.
Hakim began attracting a new tier of clients—ones who respected his process and paid without hesitation. He messaged me saying:
“I closed the whole week with $1,000 more than this time last year.
Last year, Week 1 was $2,390. This year, Week 1 was $3,607.”
He started waking up to $1,000 transfers.
And most importantly—he started showing up with clarity in his pricing, his positioning, and his pitch.
But here’s what really made me proud: He told me about his dad.
A lifelong teacher.
The kind of man who never gave up on the “difficult” kids.
The kind of father who taught not just from books—but from kites, gardens, and curiosity.
A man who showed Hakim that real teaching is about care, presence, and challenging the status quo.
“When I first started teaching public speaking, my dad was the first one truly interested—even when I wasn’t sure where this path would lead.”
“His example — of patience, genuine care, and courage — is something I try to bring into my own teaching.”
I realized something in that moment: Hakim wasn’t just building a business. He was carrying a legacy.
