Why Investors Reject Great Pitch

Meet Stanley Tan: $29,963 in His First 16 Days

July 16, 20256 min read

Stanley is a Fund Manager/Owner at Skystone Asset Management, a MAS-licensed fund management company. He built his 20+ year career in the financial and real estate industry, holding roles at institutions like BNP Paribas, DBS Vickers Securities, CLSA and FundedHere.

This was a man who had spent decades building his success and credibility—one of Asia Pacific's top 25 financial analysts, fund owner, and advisor to startups raising millions.

He have the wisdom. He's brilliant. He's competent. Stanley wasn’t short of expertise. He's smart as hell. (maybe even more than Lucifer himself; yet with deep depths of Love and extreme levels of Empathy for the animals.)

But he was lost. He's not sure where to start.

He’d been swimming in conflicting advice from marketing experts, content strategists, and coaches.

Everyone had their own formula.

And none of them agreed.

All conflict and clash with each other.

He was frustrated, overwhelmed, and very confused.

It was like having a Ferrari engine with no chassis to mount it on.

He came to me for launching his own seminar course and build his own high-ticket program, have a customise pitch that's fitted and tailored to him.

not another Uniqlo.

He needed it like Dormeuil Vanquish.

🧠 The First Pitch: $4,365 in 60 seconds

At his first pitch to a room of ~150 business owners, Stanley used the pitch structure for the first time—and the magic started.

The chat exploded. Messages came flying in.

  • 45 people paid $97

  • Total Revenue $4,365

  • that's a ~30% sales conversion

  • And he completed the pitch in 60 seconds!

That's where it finally made sense:

it wasn't about HTO LTO STO

It wasn’t about confusing and complex funnels.

It wasn’t about more content or more "AI Avatars"

none of more of those complex and conflicting misinformation.

to win in today's landscape, you want to be a signal. not another noise.

the marketplace is already a tsunami of confusing noises.

“That’s when I have to humbly say—He’s the pitch master.” - Stanley Tan

🏀🏀 At first, Stanley's ego was in gear 5, and naturally! He had already done this for so many years and so many times. He’d spent years pitching to institutional investors, funding startups, reviewing decks as a fund owner. Almost every outsized result by my champion graduates on my Wall of Champions have outsized egos! It was necessary to help them to win mega big in life.

However, they also learned that it wasn't about being good, or better, best

it's was all about blindspots.

one wrong corner,

one crash,

☠️☠️ One blindspot,, and you could end up decommissioned for good.

Also Read: What Makes a Good Founder? (other than building a great product)

Wouldn't you also want to avoid crashing, before the crash, too? is in having the ability to navigate around blindspots—especially during turbulent times.

Recognising blind spots,

and leveraging the right help,

ask for the right advice from the right people—so they can get the best help and build their startups.

it's just like Phil Jackson + Michael Jordan in the NBA

Was PJ the better player?

🏆🏆 Yet, MJ has the most championship rings and PJ has the highest win ratio of NBA history.

Why does having a coach or mentor is so important? Because the best coach not only offers strategy and tactics, but also perspective. Imagine, how different would your life be? if you had just learn to avoid just one or two of the devastating blindspots?

Every great player has their coach.

It isn't how fast you are,

it's not how smart you are,

🧠 🧠 🧠 Because, even the fastest racers have blindspots.

A Great Coach can do wonders for you. Qualities of a great coach:

  • they LOVE the sport (my sport is teaching and pitching)

  • a great coach have the ability to maximise the talents inside of a player and draw out their potential to win championship trophies.

  • has a proven system that can produce champions, repeatable and reliable

  • has experience to remove confusion and deliver total clarity

  • has the ability to produce tailored game-plan for different talents on his team

  • can offer action steps + simplify (not more confusing complexity!)

  • has patience on the charcoal for the shine of a Diamond

🎉🎉 Celebrated + recognised

This wasn’t just about sales.

It was about reinventing identity.

Stanley didn’t just launch a course.

He was celebrated for his talent

He was recognised for his worth

He was valued for his efforts

I'm proud of a graduate like Stanley—decades of experience, global reputation—can humble himself and follow a structure…Congratulations! 🎉🎉

Here's Stanley sharing his experience:

At 7:45 — he gives me the pitch. I’m like, “What is this??” So I told David, “Okay, let’s go!” My pitch is still zero. It’s last night’s version, which Jason said is wrong. Then I saw a WhatsApp—he didn’t script it for me, he just said: “Take what you have and use P.I.T.C.H.”

But, my instinct was, I’ve done this for so many years. I’ve pitched in front of funds. I’ve helped startups pitch to funds. My ego lah, right? Couldn’t see the value. So I said to myself, let’s humble ourselves. Let’s learn something.

Then, when it came to my turn—in that one minute pitch in the chambers—it went out. Then suddenly David posted in the group, and it just went… And I’m like: what’s going on? That’s when I really had to humbly just keep quiet and say:

“That’s the pitch master.”
