What makes a Great Founder?

What makes a Great Founder?

A story: I remember my experience with two private clients who hired my coaching help to start their own programs

But, they ignored most of my advice; took advice from someone from other industries—who had never speak or sold at a seminar before, and had zero experience building a high-ticket coaching program from scratch.

⚽🏀 That’s like trying to win in the NBA using FIFA rules.

⚽🏀 And I knew I had to make the right call.

⚽🏀 But it wasn’t easy—it was tougher than unseasoned meat.

These two contracts really mattered to me.

Because it was during a period when every cent mattered.

Every dollar I wanted to spend, I had to ask myself,

“Is there a $0.50 alternative?”

And if I found the $0.50 alternative, I’d continue to find the $0.25 alternative.

Until I couldn’t anymore, I would do it—or I might not.

Because by then, I was so exhausted I might not be hungry anymore.

I visited places that offered free water, like Shake Shack—so I could keep my stomach filled with water and not feel hungry.

I was fearful of doing meetings because, in my head:

“What if they go to expensive places where even a drink costs $8?”

Every dollar represented a new sunrise—any day could’ve been my final sunset.

🍒 The cherry on top to really crescendo it?

The daily anxiety + constant stress triggered the deadly virus shingles in my body.

I felt like dying. Literally.

Time stopped, and life felt meaningless and hopeless.

It was tough—mentally, spiritually, and physically.

During that season, waking up and still being able to breathe was already the ultimate blessing.

But despite all that, I still had a very tough call to make.

So we terminated the contract. Both at the same time.

I think the ability of an entrepreneur is measured by their ability to see true value—especially during turbulent times.

In themselves, and in others.

Recognizing blind spots, and leveraging the right help.

Taking the right advice from the right people—so they can hire the right help and build their startups.

No one is great at everything.

That’s why you have to hire others who are better than you.

If their skills make you feel lesser, awful, or lacking—chances are, you’re on the right track.

🎁 And if they’re kind and nice + God Tier competency? —you hit the jackpot! on the super bonus track of God's GIFT!

🏆 Here’s an example from the NBA: Phil Jackson + Michael Jordan.

Was PJ the better player? No, not at all.

He only had 2 trophies as a player.

But as a coach?

🏀🏀 PJ + MJ have the most championship rings.

And PJ owns the highest win ratio in NBA history.

Why?

Because it wasn’t about being good, or better, or best on your own—

It’s all about blind spots. Or scotoma.

The best coach/mentor not only offers strategy and tactics—but also perspective.

It’s not about adding more to the confusion—

It’s about removing bad habits and blind spots.

🏎️ For this reason, every champion has their coach/mentor.

🏎️ Coaching is highly valued in the world of high-stakes sports like NBA, F1.

Why?

Because even the fastest racers have blind spots.

It isn’t how fast you are.

It’s not how smart you are.

One blind spot, one wrong turn, one corner, one crash—and you’re decommissioned for good.

🧭 Coach vs Mentor: What’s the difference?

Coach:

✔️ Cultivates your skills

✔️ Draws out your potential/talent

✔️ Has a game plan for your performance

Mentor:

🧠 Shapes your life philosophy

💬 Guides your personal direction (may include skills too)

Tiger Woods could be a great coach for golf skills—

But you might not agree with him enough to adopt his life philosophy.

A great coach can do wonders for you.

Qualities of a great coach:

  • They LOVE the game. They’re super PASSIONATE.

So much so that if black sheep disrespect or undermine the sport, they don’t hold back in putting them in place.

They love the sport so much, they protect it against outsiders trying to disrespect, diminish, tarnish, or destroy the game.

(My sport? It’s teaching and pitching🙂)

  • A great coach has the ability to maximise the talents inside of a player and draw out their potential to win championship trophies.

  • Has a proven system that can produce champions—repeatable and reliable.

  • Offers review, support, and guidance sessions.

  • Has experience to remove confusion and deliver total clarity.

  • Has the ability to produce tailored game plans for different talents on his team.

  • Can offer action steps + simplify (not more confusing complexity!).

  • Has patience on the charcoal—for the shine of a diamond.
