How I started Teaching (3 Seeds That Sprouted The Forest)

Do you remember your first motivation? The first spark, first seed, first aha, first breakthroughs that started your startup journey? that you knew in your guts - that this was what you gonna do for the rest of your life? And if you are not doing it, you don't feel "yourself" at all?

I was on a interview, and while answering this question,

"You’ve helped thousands of students fast-track their success. Can you share one standout transformation story that deeply impacted you as a teacher?"

It reminded me of the first 3 founders I've helped. but this one stood out significantly in my years of teaching.

I wasn’t always a coach, or a mentor, or any of the titles people call me now. I was just another salesperson, trying to survive. Cold calling. Getting ghosted. Chasing commission. The usual.

But everything changed when one of my earliest graduates made more money than me.

3 precious moments in my life that were like seeds to the forest today. These stories left a deep impact on me and my deep passion for teaching. It started with a spark inside my gut, to an eye-watering moment at my event. Little by little, stories like these shifted me, and my purpose of waking up had started to change. I realised I was not waking up for myself anymore. I was on a new mission.

Meet My First Graduate, Jane: "I’m not sure sales is working for me"

Jane was a soft-spoken Malaysian girl with wide eyes and a quiet hunger to prove herself.

She had moved to Singapore to chase a future in sales—

but that future was shrinking fast.

She was barely covering her rent.

Her confidence had turned into caution.

And she was this close to packing her bags and heading back to hometown to find a job with a steady paycheck.

“I’m not sure sales is working for me,” she said once after a session,

It was during one of my live events.

One of the graduates—Johnny—stepped onto the stage.

He had finished the program. Quiet guy. Always early. Never complained.

But this time, when he held the mic, something was different.

He paused. Looked out at the room. Then said:

“I didn’t just use this program to save my startup. I used it to save my marriage.”

The room went still.

And I felt a lump catch in my throat.

Ever since this day, I realised that I was not waking up for myself anymore.

My purpose of waking up started to change.

Because behind every founder’s pitch… is a real human being, fighting to stay in the game.

Meet Leon, A Father of 5: "not easy honestly having to take advice from someone who is much younger than me."
